Research Interests/Expertise: the EU's relations with third countries, specifically relations with the Russian Federation, and the choices made by individual member states between acting alone or through the EU to pursue their objectives regarding Russia or other 'third' states; EU external energy policy, especially in the European neighbourhood; 'values'-promotion regarding Russia (human rights, democracy, rule of law); EU neighbourhood policies (Northern Dimension, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia Strategy, Black Sea Synergy).
