Biography

My current PhD research, which is funded by the ESRC, focuses on the role of European institutions (the EU and Council of Europe) in promoting human rights in Russia since the start of then-President Putin's second term in 2004. This project builds on previous degrees in Russian language, history and politics, and a lengthy period of time spent working for NGOs in Moscow. Other areas of interest include EU-Russia relations more broadly, civil society development in Russia, and Russian domestic politics and foreign policy.
