Biography

Viera holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in International Relations and Diplomacy from Matej Bel University in Slovakia, where she focused primarily on the third pillar of the European Union including democratic control over Europol. She also worked as a trainee at the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs.
Since 2006, she has been a PhD. student at the Charles University, Prague, where she works on her dissertation thesis titled “Institutional Aspects of the Democratic Deficit: the Role of National Parliaments in EU Matters”, concentrating on the cases of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia. She participates in research projects on the patterns of European decision-making after the 2004 enlargement, where she oversees the collection of data on the Council decision-making and on the inter-institutional relations in the European decision-making, and conducts her own research on national parliaments as actors on the European level.
